6 Extensions

Beyond social media (e.g., Twitter or LinkedIn-style) feeds, the app could be adapted to study various social media formats or, more broadly, other digital platforms. We have developed preliminary versions of news and shopping feeds using the DICE app’s framework, demonstrating its flexibility and customizability.
You can download the corresponding *.otreezip files below. The Deployment chapter provides guidance for hosting these apps either locally or on your own server.

We hope to feature more DICE extensions (such as a review platform, for instance) developed by the research community in the future.
6.1 DICE Lite
DICE Lite is a stripped-down version of the DICE app designed as a minimal starting point for researchers who want to build their own custom feed experiments. Compared to the fully-fledged DICE app, it carries less legacy code and is easier to understand, modify, and extend. It is a good starting point if you want to customize the look and feel of the feed beyond what the standard DICE app supports.
DICE Lite must be hosted by researchers themselves — it cannot be launched via dice-app.org. See the Deployment chapter for guidance on self-hosting.
6.2 TikTok-Style Feed
Built on top of DICE Lite, the TikTok-style feed extension simulates a short-video platform interface. Participants scroll vertically through full-screen video items, mimicking the TikTok experience. This extension is well-suited for studies on short-form video content, algorithmic curation, or attention and engagement in vertical video formats.
Like DICE Lite, this extension requires researchers to host it on their own server and cannot be configured via dice-app.org.
